💎I am nothing if not a bedazzling freak. These were inspired by decoden & decora trends from the 2010s and honestly I’ve never stopped cramming rhinestones, knickknacks, old buttons, broken jewelry and cabachons onto any flat surface I can.

Inspiration for a few things I’m working on. I hope it brings you joy. And a happy winter solstice to this hemisphere ❄️

Honestly don’t know what the future of this business is! I’ve been trying year after year after year to come roaring in but with everything going on I just have not a single clue if I’ll be able to produce product, if people will have the funds to buy my stuff at fair prices (to me…I know most people want handmade and upcycled at SHEIN prices and I’m most afraid that will be my biggest hurdle) and if I’ll have health insurance to keep battling this incurable, all-consuming illness. I really REALLY thought by 2025 I’d be in a better place (I know. Like I say every year) but to be worse was not what I was prepping for. My pain (hEDS, fibromyalgia, neuropathy etc) got exponentially worse after my tooth extraction in May, as have my autoimmune symptoms. I still plan on working on all my personal projects but I truly don’t know if my collections will be available. I’m gonna try? I have so many pieces and dresses and accessories for every size and every type of whimsical wild-hearted nostalgia fairy freak in the works. I hope that something good happens in this. Remember when Wavy Gravy said there’s always a little bit of heaven in a disaster area on the main stage at Woodstock? Yeah I feel like that is my mission. Like. Fuck fascism through fashion seems really dorky but I’ve been isolated since the last Trump regime so I’m gonna do what I need to do and if you wanna join me that would be super groovy.

Oh, the possibilities (sorry for the lack of content. Busy battling for my life).

Another @landing.space collage by yours truly 💘

❣️❣️❣️We all want it. Some have found it. Others have done what I done and made their own. I did this the week before the Morticia dress. Literally “just because”. I had first attempt going that was just polymer clay and it came out fairly well but when I went to coat it with a UV resin mixed with some pigments and sparkle…it never set. Omg it was a sticky red mess 💀 Very frustrating. I had a feeling I’d need a backup plan though so I ended up coloring a piece of shrink film red, cutting a teardrop shape and shrinking that down, then i went back in with the polymer clay. Phase 4 will be when it’s really sealed and finished as I only put the bale on at the end and covered up the black lowlights I drew in with more gold…which I don’t like as much haha, so I have to go back! Hopefully you’re interested…if so I’ll get at it and take some proper photos. I didn’t mess with resin for this round, lol. But I am extremely satisfied with how it’s looking. I didn’t have to buy any supplies! The red version of this seems impossible to find though I’ve seen a few white ones and a couple turquoise. They tend to have a pretty hefty price tag online, unless you can find one out in the wild! This is just a costume piece and won’t be for sale. Perhaps in the future if I ever work with metal ❤️

Ok so this took about a year to finish considering how slowwwly I’ve been running with my illness controlling my every move, so I have to say I’m thrilled to share this project with everyone. I’ll probably still end up adding some swagging beads and Ivy leaves, maybe have some birds or butterflies flying by because it’s me we’re talking about! But I had to pay homage to Wonderwall. I had these lanterns hanging for a while just plain but they looked too cheap and like a child’s party, so adding the paisley scarfs and trims, as well as the dangles (I had those left over from my living room chandelier that I made over in 2021) elevated the whole look while still being fun and unique. My room aesthetic is a wild mix of Penny Lane’s apartment in Wonderwall (Marijke and The Fool are responsible for all that), Elaine’s apartment in The Love Witch, and the Lisbon sisters rooms in The Virgin Suicides. Throw in some That 70s Show with That 90s Show and you’ve got ✨DOLLIECORE™️✨ I did this because I do not have overhead lighting and couldn’t bear to have an empty ceiling. Would you ever try something like this? Thanks to @_miss.danni.bba_ for re-hanging the lanterns. The ladder is not an easy thing to deal with when you have POTS 😮‍💨

As far as I know (???) I was the first person to start making outfits based on Josh’s stage clothes (seriously I might be talking out of my ass on this one, but the fan base was so much smaller back in 2018/19 that we all knew what each other were doing and wearing LOL) …his red two piece with gold trim is the first custom we all saw and I immediately decided to do a blue velvet with silver trim, and make it a shorts and bra top situation. I never actually got to wear it. Madison had no ADA compliance whatsoever so I stayed in the hotel for a concert I really REALLY looked forward to for over half a year. I did send a photo of the fit and Josh ended up wearing his red version but alas…my version still hangs in my closet just waiting for the right moment to emerge. The next outfit I made for a show was a bit wild because it features a giant silver beaded 8-point star on an indigo bodice I made out of a dress I had worn at a different event and unbeknownst to me, that star motif would show up on Josh (and Jake’s) clothes from then on 😂 so that one was not actually based on what they were wearing; rather it would seem that we had the same idea at the same time. Anyway I’ve gone an turned this old story highlight into a reel. Because I cannot WAIT til the studio version of “Sacred the Thread” comes out.

A lil throwback Thursday post…I love making charm bracelets and these two were very early ones I put together when I first started Dollierocker. I’ve always been so fond of all things celestial and the bottom bracelet features some charms and beads that came in a kit I got as a kid from a store called Zany Brainy. I’ve looked high and low for more of these kits but alas, they are now considered vintage 90s so I haven’t stumbled upon a single one left. The top one came about a bit later when I found a cool button kit at Michael’s and made them into charms by drilling holes into the tops, cutting off the button loops then sanding the backs down. I look forward to making jewelry again soon, and don’t worry my skills have improved quite a bit since these babies were constructed!

Made over a really dinky lampshade using more #lularoe leftovers…it’s a pale imitation of some of the artists I’ve seen on here doing (and these aren’t the final photos, I’m saving those for a reel) but this was a verrrry “I’m doing this for my sanity” project! I had absolutely no idea what I was doing, had to scrounge for materials; but hey, at least I learned not to use stretchy textile to do those knife pleats LOL. For next time. I’m kidding I doubt there will be a next time: I’ll let the real lampshade artists like @aceofshadesshop and @elegancelamps handle those. All in all I’m happy with the updated look. The gold bobbles aren’t so wonky looking and since I used recycled fringe and all I had was black, I’m glad I went with black lace trim. More details on how I did this coming up. And thank you to all the lamp shade upcyclers of IG for sharing your process. Those videos are so calming and you all are SO talented.

Pardon the no-makeup mirror selfie 👹 but let’s focus on the important thing in the pictures…the $0 DIY pant-a-shoes 🤩 There have been so many iterations of these through the decades (I’ll make a reel to elaborate) but these ones are definitely harkening back to the Pan-T-Boots from the 1960s. This is the second pair I’ve tried my hand at. I couldn’t resist this legging pattern…and the fun thing about these are that they aren’t too tight to function, and you can take the shoes out and keep switching designs. These ones still need one more alteration, but I’m pleased as punch with how they look. It’s the ballerina in me…we love an infinity line from waist to toe!

My sister used to sell Lularoe long before they were exposed as the scam that they are. We had a local friend in the game so we got in on the ground floor so to speak. But once things were getting icky, sis left the hustle just in time. However we now have racks and racks of leggings, dresses, skirts, etc. some we’ve managed to keep selling off but as anyone who has seen the documentaries and news stories knows; the company left hundreds, maybe thousands of women with thousands of dollars worth of unsellable merchandise and no compensation. So I’m going to do everything I can to upcycle what we have and make it fabulous. No more new garments need to be made! And no more Lula in the landfills. When I am in better health I can’t wait to really get into it.

Last week after suffering for the better part of the last 2 decades, I had my diagnoses of endometriosis confirmed. As I looked through my gallery I couldn’t help but remember just how many projects and things I’ve created through the most intense pain and severe illness. Endless creations I poured my heart into…pretty much every single one completed (or, as is more often the case, never finished) under such duress. It’s a relief to be heard but hard to wrap my head around how long it’s taken to be listened to when it comes to this illness. I was having a tough time and then. A couple days later, my dog who had recovered from a severe kidney problem suffered in November and was acting like he was a puppy again, suddenly became very ill. He was taken to the emergency vet as it was the weekend and we got the call that he could not be saved. I have been in a very weakened state so I suppose it was assumed that I would have my dad (now his primary caretaker) put him down without me. But I wasn’t having it. And so. Just like we put our old family dog Shelley down together, here we were again; saying goodbye this time to my angel. I found some photos of me working on things that didn’t remind me of how much pain I was in. It’s these two. You see, Percy did not like when I was working on Dollierocker. Why? Because that meant I wasn’t paying full attention to HIM!! He was just the most amazing animal, he acted more human than dog. Here he is quality-checking my first attempts at making a tutu from scratch, and in the second photo he knows I’m getting ready to tinker with my website on the laptop which meant that my LAP would be unavailable to him and that was just pft…unacceptable. I miss him so much already. It seems no matter how many times I open this business, some catastrophe happens to rain on my return. I’m not gonna leave this time, though. But I do need to sort out my health to stabilize, and to grieve properly which I have not even done given everything going on with my own body. I just wanted to share this update and these pictures of my boy. He was so hilarious. And sweet. I hope to be back here soon -Dollie

Sooo, you've found my blog. Welcome! I hope you are as excited to be here as I am. I found myself writing out blog-style captions for instagram captions and stories and for years now it just felt...ridiculous, amongst other adjectives. This place will serve as a platform for me to talk about anything and everything, as well as the ideal spot to explain my DIYs. It's an exstension of my 90s-style website and I hope it transports you back to a time when the pressure of updating folks on your every breath was not necessary and beautiful things were created with lots of time and care, with no aspirations of going "viral".
