And just like that...it's November! October felt quite long to me but generally, time seems to be doing wild things so without dwelling on my complicated feelings about life passing me by all willy nilly (and without STALLING anymore) let's just get to the point, here:
・:*.ೃ࿔⋆❀° The Dress is Finished °❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・
It looks different in every light which I don't mind because I suspect the original did the very same. I ripped apart this dress about a dozen times before finishing. It was the most difficult thing I've ever sewn and I'm rusty as heck. With all of the material being strechy (mostly 4-way but some pieces were just 2 way which was SO challenging) I just bit off more than I could chew- but I had no pattern to work off of and instead used pre-existing garments that I felt were the right shape and look. All in all I would say my painful attention to detail was worth it, though:
I've had a lot of requests to make more of these and between my never-ending health battles and the fact that this one was so very difficult to nail, I decided that I would not be making any more of these...at least, not any more exact replicas. But that doesn't mean I'm not sorting out what was left in the rejected pile of beautiful velvets I've been thrifiting and collecting for over a year. So stay tuned. You never know when I will slam together a few Practical Magic inspired dresses!!
What a journey this has been. If you missed the making of, go ahead and check out part one of this blog here <3 It's a doozy but I think it's worth the read. Also, I gave some shout-outs to a few gals that have also tackled this dress but if you have or know someone else that did; lmk! I'll shout out as many Gillys as I can find :D Anywho, autumn is really doing it's thang now that Halloween is over. Which I always find a bit funny- people jump into fall around August anymore, and then immediately go into christmas mode come November 1st but I try (as any witch would) to honor the seasons as they are actually happening! And November does provide the most autumnal vibes of all.
I am starting work on holiday things though! Don't get it twisted. I say that's more of a result of being a Nutcracker girlie, when this would be the time of the season that we were completely done with all of the choreography and were heavy into rehearsal mode. Someone made a tiktok about this phenomenon and I just had one correction which was that we would receive our roles in the show in August, LOL. Thinking of snow in the dead of summer isn't that strange but regardless, I still try to keep things seasonally appropriate around here. As far as this dress is concerned...it's the perfect Christmas green and I think I might need to style it just for the holidays. Let me know if you think I did a good job in the comments.
